Tailings are the low content of useful components produced by the concentrator and can not be utilized at present. It is the main component of industrial solid waste. Tailings treatment is one of the important links in mine production. In recent years, tailings dry discharge is a new tailings treatment process gradually emerging in China, that is, after being treated by a series of mine tailings dewatering equipment, tailings form low moisture content, easy to precipitate and solidify and stackable slag for dry stacking, which not only alleviates the pressure of tailings pond capacity, reduces the potential safety hazards of tailings pond, but also increases the means of tailings reuse. It is a tailings treatment process to realize green and environmental protection mines.

Why should tailings be treated? Usually, the concentrator uses the method of stacking tailings dam to treat tailings, and the toxic agents, wastewater and heavy metal ions remaining in the tailings produced in the beneficiation process will cause pollution and ecological damage to the environment around the mine. At the same time, it will increase the potential safety hazards of tailings dam and induce accidents such as landslide, debris flow and dam break of tailings dam. Therefore, tailings treatment has been paid great attention.

At present, there are roughly three directions for tailings treatment: tailings reselection, tailings dewatering and tailings filling goaf. The filters commonly used in tailings dewatering mainly include belt filter and box filter press.

The belt filter adopts the dehydration mode of ultra long filtration and strong roller pressing, which has strong adaptability to coarse-grained tailings. The moisture of filter cake can be controlled within 20%, but the feed concentration and particle size of tailings have a great impact on the filtration effect.
